GP4: 2011 Mod Update

Let me apologise firstly for the delay in getting this update published. It was noticed that if you ran a full race distance, some cars would retire near the end of the race because they would run out of fuel. A big thanks to Francis Zenas for fixing the magic data on all tracks. He did these quite a while ago, and it's taken me a long time to compile this updated fix.

Unfortunately, there still remains a bug on some tracks where cars get stuck in their pitboxes.

Thanks to gp4wonder & carl_gpgames for sharing DSOAL's EAX tweak. This also comes with DX8 to DX9 converter by crosire. These tweaks not only enable 3D EAX effects, but also provide much better sound quality from the samples. They also allow GP4 to run more stably and you can ask GP4 to run all CPU cores without crashing. For some machines, this will improve your GP4 performance.

GP4: 2023 Helmets 'Christmas' Update

Happy Christmas to your all

This is the final update of my 2023 helmet set. The set is so fresh, the paint is still drying and I haven't got any previews for you.

I'm really grateful that timtoffee has helped me finish the set. He created three helmets to go in this set, with a few light edits from me.

2023 Sainz US GP helmet

2023 Leclerc US GP helmet
2023 Norris US GP helmet

For the US GP (at COTA), we have Leclerc's American Football field inspired helmet, Norris' 100th GP helmet with stickers representing each of his 99 GPs, and Carlos Sainz's Texan flag inspired lid.

2023 Bottas Mexican GP helmet
2023 Perez Mexican GP helmet

Two new helmets from the Mexican GP, the first, by timtoffee is the Bottas 'Bottaco' helmet, another colourful and clipart filled design by Tiffany, and Perez's lid, which was submitted by a fan and completed by MDM Designs - a really nice design.

2023 Albon Las Vegas GP helmet

For Las Vegas, we have Albon's helmet which I hand drew and added sketching effects. This helmet took me quite a few days, and a lot of effort to make the seams ... well seamless... and it was my final complete contribution to this season's set and among my favourites for the year.

2023 Alonso Las Vegas GP helmet

Alonso had a busy casino inspired design, another one that looks simple, but has so many different elements that wasn't easy to reproduce.

2023 Bottas Las Vegas GP helmet

Bottas had a rocket/spaceman theme for Vegas, and timtoffee did an excellent job on this helmet with a little input from me.

2023 Leclerc Las Vegas GP helmet

timtoffee and I also colloborated to create Leclerc's helmet, which was designed by Adrien Paviot.

2023 Perez Las Vegas GP helmet

Perez also had a casino inspired helmet for Las Vegas, with a skyline running along the bottom of his helmet, another hand drawn effort from me.

2023 Sainz Las Vegas GP helmet

And finally for this race, Carlos Sainz has a number of classic Vegas style images but personalised with either his name or his race number. Again, each element was faithfully recreated on this one.

2023 Leclerc Abu Dhabi GP helmet

And finally for the Abu Dhabi GP, we have Leclerc's helmet which features the name of most of his colleagues at Ferrari. If you watch his video, you'll see he immediately spots some missing names, which he writes on in pen, a touching tribute to his teammates.

I hope you've enjoyed this helmet set as I've been adding to it over the course of the season. There's 122 helmets in this set and I didn't do it alone.

I couldn't have done it without Jvinu's helmet shapes and templates.
Thanks to Nick who created all the render previews and also converted the base set to rFactor 2 and his support.
Thanks to rracunis for his contribution to the McLaren helmets and Tweaker visors.
Thanks to timtoffee for helping me complete the set with some nice additions.
And thanks for Philippe for the support and motivation to do as many helmets as I have done in the past couple of seasons.

And thanks to you for your helping to keep GP4 alive, and to those who have converted these helmets to be used in other games, it all helps me keep producing these things for you.

Happy holidays and keep racing, GP4 fans.

GP4: Formula E 2022/23 Season 9 Liveries

OK.

I relented.

I know I said I wouldn't do it, but I have.

I have created all the remaining liveries for the 9th Season of Formula E. Sorry that there hasn't been much progress on the 2023 F1 scene of late, but this mini project has taken up that time. Sometimes when you're motivated, you've just got to go for it. All the liveries are made by me from scratch using the template that I've made freely available.

You can now enjoy the full grid, with every team from the 2022-23 season included in this pack. I've also reworked some of the previous released liveries, so please update them if you had previously downloaded them. After working on modern F1 liveries that predominantly use a matte paint these days, it's nice to go back and have a variety of liveries that are more reflective.

Thankfully many of the liveries are quite simple and straight forward to create, the ABT Cupra had some interesting lines and dashes, the Porsche has many gradients and the Jaguar has a mirrored livery for the second car. I quite enjoyed creating the NIO livery, this is the final season they enter under that name as they will become the ERT Formula E team in Season 10.

GP4: 2023 Helmets 'November' Update

After the Qatari GP, I took a little break from my 2023 helmet set to concentrate on some other projects. So far this year, there hasn't been a crazy amount of special helmets, which has been pretty manageable for me which is great, but I was expecting that to change for the last four races of the year, and, boy, there were quite a lot of them. I had been doing monthly updates and this was meant to have been the October and November update combined, but sorry I've missed it by a few days. Because of the sheer number of helmets, I'm going to release them in two batches. There's no real order to which I'm creating these helmets, but here is what has been done so far.

Max Verstappen - Qatar GP

Firstly, congratulations to Max and Red Bull on their dominant Championships this season. Dominance brings a bit of inevitability and can be a bit dull at times, but that's no reason not to recognise both team and driver at the absolute top of their game and respect to that. It's official, not only was it record breaking, but it is statistically the most dominant performance from a driver ever in F1. Massive respect, and fully deserved. Sure he didn't win every race, but to be out front at pretty much every race, to wipe the floor with his experienced team-mate the way that he has, and appear so dominant in a close grid (compared to the old days), this is praise-worthy stuff that is not likely to be repeated soon, if at all. Congrats to Max, to Red Bull, to Adrian Newey et al for this incredible effort.

After winning the Championship at the sprint race, Max was presented with a new World Championship helmet in blue and gold, following the design of his late season helmet. Verstappen did a similar thing last year when he wore a gold helmet celebrate his championship victory and now this one features three stars at the rear of the helmet. Designed once more by KV Designs, the helmet was beautifully painted by JMD Helmets. Max wore the helmet at the Qatar GP which, predictably, he also won.

Pierre Gasly - Qatar GP

Pierre presented two helmets which he wore during the weekend in Qatar. It's his race helmet that I've decided to recreate. This helmet, designed by Alanoud Al Ghamdi and Shouq Al Mana for Qatar Creates, is inspired by the flora and fauana of the desert, its nomadic people, using textures inspired by the sand and the Qatari flag, Arabic calligraphy and the cultural symbol of the horse. These are all nicely worked into his regular helmet design where Pierre had a competitive weekend, despite being one of the most penalised over track limits in the race.

GP4: 2023 Ferrari SF-23 Las Vegas livery, F2 helmets and more...

2023 Ferrari SF-23 Las Vegas livery

First up, I'm please to share with you this updated livery used by the Ferrari team at the Las Vegas GP. This livery is inspired by the simple red and white liveries from the 1970s, and it apparently took some agreement from their sponsors and partners to display monotone white versions of their logos. The team enjoyed one of their most competitive weekends of the season at the inaugural event on the Las Vegas strip.

This GP4 version comes with a textures for both Leclerc and Sainz, and includes their new driver suits. I hope you like it, here's some more screenshots (apologies that I've not updated their helmets yet).

GP4: New Downloads added

From time to time, I'm continuing to build up my collection of GP4 content and sharing it with you. There are downloads being added reasonably regularly on this site, though usually quietly in the background. As I've added quite a lot of content in recent weeks, I thought I'd highlight some of them, because there's some really good stuff that's been created in GP4, some of it unfinished, but I hope it may inspire you to add to them.

New tools:

GPaediaMaker & GPH Updater by Petrus

Petrus has been making some great tools to help update your menu screens.

Check them out here:

1970s Mods

Meteoro405 and KerleyF1 has released a few individual cars from the 1970s and I've added links to them on the 1970s Mod page.
  • 1970 Ferrari 312B
  • 1971 Lotus 72C
  • 1974-5 Brabham BT44
  • 1975 Ferrari 312T
  • 1975 Lola T-371
  • 1976 Copersucar FD04
Perhaps in playing these, it may inspire others to add more 1970s content to GP4

1980s Mods

1980 Mod v1.12 by Pedro_27

Thanks for spotting this one, but I only had links to v1.0 of the mod, not realising there was an updated version available. Now the updated mod is available on the site (as well as version 1.0).

Single Seater Mods

Formula E Gen 1 & Gen 5.

As I was making my Gen3 template, I was looking for previous Formula E content, and I found a pack from Gezere of RSCT who had released almost everything you need to make a mod for Formula E season 1. Perhaps I will turn this into a mod for you in the near future

rracunis has also compiled season 5 together, but this is shared privately.

2005 GP2 car Template by Rom1

This is an old one from gp4db, the first GP2 car made by Rom1. He was very good at releasing templates with his cars, and this one is no different.

2013 Dallara GP3/133 Template by Haunetal, NickJW and formula Heinze.

A nice car from Haunetal, originally created for rFactor, and converted to GP4. Sadly not all the liveries were converted, but it's good to have another template for a junior series available.

All of these are available here:

GP4: Junior & Single-Seater Mods

Indycar Mods

2023 Indycar Mod by rracunis

Freshly released is the 2023 Indycar mod converted to GP4 and compiled by rracunis. It's really nice to have these other types of mods in GP4.

CART Template by Oggo & Adry77

Another resurrected download from gp4db.com, here's the 1999 Reynard used in the CART series, along with the Superman livery that Vasser raced with at the Indy 500 that year.

Both of these updates are available here:

Sportscar mods

Added the GT1 car mods from the mid/late-90s, partly real, partly fictional by Meteoro405. I was a fan of the 1990s and the short lived GT1 series, and I may do some work on this in the future, but to begin with, here's the McLaren F1-GTR, the Porsche 911 GT1 and the Mercedes CLK-LM to play with.

Vanilla GP4 in HD

There's a new section on my site. There's been a bit of work done of late to update original GP4 to make it HD. I'm collating all these works here:
