GP4: 2022 Helmets pack complete!

Here it is, the final update to the 2022 pack.

As is now customary, over half of the grid raced with special helmet designs in Abu Dhabi, especially those who are not returning to the grid next season. I've created 13 more helmets. For one last time this season, let's get into it.

Alex Albon  2022 Abu Dhabi GP helmet

Alex Albon has replaced the white regions of his standard helmet with a chrome effect. The helmet itself is a simplified version of his standard helmet. In most pictures, there was a slight red tinge to the chromed reflections, so I've added a bit of red hint to some areas. The helmet also features Latifi's name, in honour of his last race.

Fernando Alonso 2022 Abu Dhabi GP helmet

It was a bit of a surprise that old rival Fernando Alonso was so sentinmental at Vettel's last race. He decided against fighting him in the first few laps of the race whilst also running this tribute helmet. He will replace the German at Aston Martin next year. The helmet is still largely title sponsor BWT influenced, but the German flag strip across the front is simple and iconic.

Pierre Gasly  2022 Abu Dhabi GP helmet

Pierre Gasly is not only ending his time with Alpha Tauri but also the Red Bull family, and so this helmet is half his old Red Bull helmet and this season's Alpha Tauri helmet. There are messages of thanks in various languages.

Lewis Hamilton 2022 Abu Dhabi GP helmet

Lewis Hamilton ran another variation of his helmet with the rainbow flag at the Abu Dhabi GP.

Nicholas Latifi 2022 Abu Dhabi GP helmet

It's not really a new helmet for Latifi, but with a message to Seb, and the new Williams visor since Interlagos made this a quick job.

Charles Leclerc 2022 Abu Dhabi GP helmet

Charles Leclerc has also gone chrome, with silver and red chrome. But this helmet is a tribute to all those working at Gestione Sportiva and trackside, with all their names printed on the Italian flag across the front, top and rear of his helmet. There were some angles where the names weren't clear in the pictures and blueprints I had, so there may be some alternative names on there.

Kevin Magnussen  2022 Abu Dhabi GP helmet

Kevin Magnussen has a lightly altered helmet from the one that he ran since the Monaco GP, but for the Abu Dhabi GP, he's also gone with a full on chrome effect, and the K on the side of his helmet is now white instead of red.

Lando Norris 2022 Abu Dhabi GP helmet

Lando also ran a new lid with a glittery green/purplish tones. Not much was made of the helmet online that I could see, but it looks nice anyway.

Daniel Ricciardo 2022 Abu Dhabi GP helmet

Daniel Ricciardo was another driver who would not have a full time drive on the 2023 grid. His final helmet with McLaren is given to sponsor OKX and has been cyberpunked. The livery is based on his standard livery by Ornamental Conifer, and MDM Designs has done a lovely job putting all that together in this shiny number.

Carlos Sainz 2022 Abu Dhabi GP helmet

As last year, Carlos ran a glittery version of his standard helmet at the Yas Marina circuit.

Mick Schumacher 2022 Abu Dhabi GP helmet

Mick Schumacher doesn't currently have another F1 drive lined up for 2023, but instead of running his own helmet design, he dedicate his final helmet to Seb's design, which Seb stole off Mick's dad to be fair. Mick's regular design is embossed into the helmet, similar to his Japanese helmet. He'll be missed.

Sebastian Vettel  2022 Abu Dhabi GP helmet

Seb Vettel went from pantomine villian at Red Bull, to a bit of an embarressing flop at Ferrari towards the end, to being the most likeable, kind and mature driver on the grid in his Aston Martin days. Everyone was overflowing with their tributes to his last drive and his helmet was about giving back. Dubbed 'the Final Lap', he let fans buy places on his helmet, with the proceeds going to environmental projects. A great driver leaves the grid.

Zhou Guanyu 2022 Abu Dhabi GP helmet

Whilst it was probably fitting to leave Seb's helmet last, I've decided to mostly stick to alphabetical order for this post, so that leaves Zhou's helmet, which is actually the final helmet I painted for the 2022 season and so it's fitting it belongs here. Inspired by vintage Chinese ornamental floral patterns, the patterns already exist on his standard helmet at the top and around the bottom, but this helmet extends that design all the way around the helmet. Very nice design from KV Designs. The pattern was painted from scratch, so it took a bit of time, but I like the result.

GP4: 2022 US GP Helmets (part 2)

It was really no surprise that there were so many speical helmets at the US GP in Austin, Texas, with 10 drivers that I could find running a different lid. I've already released two, and now I'm pleased to show you the rest of them that I have recreated.

Charles Leclerc

Charles Leclerc 2022 US GP helmet

Leclerc has a barbeque themed helmet, that's similar to his Monaco GP helmet with the red top and white bottom.

Daniel Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo 2022 US GP helmet

Ricciardo's helmet is inspired by Will Ferrell's film, 'Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby'. A nice special design, by JMD helmets.

Esteban Ocon

Esteban Ocon 2022 US GP helmet

Esteban Ocon came with this simple yet instantly recognisable Spiderman design. According to Esteban, the US is the land of superheroes. It got better when Alpine recreated the Spiderman meme with the helmet.

Lance Stroll

Lance Stroll 2022 US GP helmet

Lance Stroll wore this leather saddle based design, with the Aston Martin wings having the appearance of leather stitched onto a camel leather base. I like how the colour of the stitching highlights the strip along the top. A nice fun helmet.

Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian Vettel 2022 US GP helmet

Well, this helmet by MDM Designs wins the busiest helmet of the year, with a hippy based vibe to it, and peace and love worked in seamlessly in glittery gold. As you can imagine, this took a while to make, but I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Nicholas Latifi

Nicholas Latifi 2022 US GP helmet

Most blogs and helmet spotters missed Goatifi's special helmet, and to be fair, I only spotted it by accident. It's an amalgamation of his previous two special helmets, the maple syrup one he ran in Montreal and the red version of his helmet he's run since Hungary.

Zhou Guanyu

Zhou Guanyu 2022 US GP helmet

Zhou's helmet is denim jeans inspired, complete with leather belt and buckle. I really enjoyed making this one, doing the stitching and leather effects to go on top of the denim base. A nice design from KV helmet designs.

Mick Schumacher

Mick Schumacher 2022 US GP helmet

Mick Schumacher created this helmet inspired by his family's ranch with images of his sister, Gina-Marie as a surprise for her. She's an accomplished reining horse rider with several international accomplishments to her name. The images were put onto a sunset backdrop, with the front and top showing a clear night sky, like the ones you see in parts of Texas that are awe inspiring.
Special thanks to 32bobo32 for helping me find the pictures of Gina-Marie. It's a shame the wing shape has changed and that's exactly where Gina's picture is, but I've tried to make it seamless enough.

As ever, these helmets are painted on Jvinu's templates and shapes, and are ACSPRH compatible.

GP4: Hungarian GP and Aston Martin helmets updated in 2022 helmet pack

I for one am glad for the F1 summer break, not least because it gives me a bit of a break from helmet creating, but it also allows me a bit more time to get the helmets completed without rushing too much. So this update is a little later than usual, but I hope you don't mind.

Sebastian Vettel - Hungarian GP

Sebastian Vettel 2022 Hungarian GP 'Lego' Helmet

Seb rocked up to Budapest with a lego themed helmet, with the slogan 'let the children play'. It's not the first lego themed helmet he's had, but sadly the Ferrari version never made it to a race. For this one, I actually borrowed some of my children's lego and recreated some of the parts of the helmet, some of it taken straight off photos, some of it recreated from vectors. It wasn't the easiest to put together, but I'm pretty pleased with the result. I had to change the seams a bit along the top to accomodate the overspill of lego over the aramco colours. The Sentinel logo keeps moving about in the last few races, having now seemingly settled on the sides.

Nicholas Latifi - Hungarian GP

Nicholas Latifi 2022 Hungarian GP Helmet

Latifi's not had the best of seasons, but did manage to bag the fastest time in one of the practice sessions at the Hungarian GP weekend, on a wet but drying track. Having run essentially the same helmet design since entering F1, he's swapped out the blue for an all red and white design. Goatifi's days in F1 seem to be drawing to a close,we'll wait and see if he runs anymore special lids before the close of the season.

Aston Martin - French GP

Included in this update are the French GP variations of the Aston Martin helmets. Both drivers had to cover over the crypto logos, and run alternative Peroni branding on the visor. I've taken some time to make some improvements to Stroll's helmet in general too, and I've his standard helmet in this update as well. Here's a quick preview of the French GP lid.

These are done on Jvinu's helmet shapes and templates and the helmets are free to be converted to other ACSPRH compatible games, just include me in the credits.

Over on Race Department, Vullracer has begun converting my helmets to Assetto Corsa and you can download them now https://www.racedepartment.com

I'm grateful for all your support in using these helmets on different platforms, it keeps me going when the motivation is lacking.

Enjoy these helmets and have a great summer break.

GP4: 2022 Helmets from the Canadian GP and some from the British GP

I'm slowly trying to keep up with all the helmet changes, but I've updated the 2022 helmet pack with some of my latest creations

Canadian GP

Lance Stroll 2022 Canadian GP helmet

Let's start with the Canadians at their home GP. Here's Lance Stroll's helmet, designed by Mark Antar, and is essentially a white version of his standard 2022 helmet. It also features a map of Montreal on the back. A smart helmet, and I like the way the red maple leaf stands out.

Nicholas Latifi 2022 Canadian GP helmet

The other Canadian, Latifi, also ran a special helmet for his home race, his first home race after Covid related postponements. This one is dripping with maple syrup, as the blue parts of his helmet turned red and has small maple leaf emblems dotted around it. Williams also seem to have a special logo for each race as the Canadian GP version appears on Latifi's helmet.

Lewis Hamilton 2022 Canadian GP helmet

Lewis ran a slightly amended version of his standard lid.

British GP

Lewis Hamilton 2022 British GP helmet

Not content with one pride helmet, Hamilton ran another iteration for the British GP.

Sebastian Vettel 2022 'Mansell' British GP helmet

Vettel owns one of Mansell's 1992 Williams FW14B's and brought it along to Silverstone, demonstrating it with a carbon neutral fuel. It was Seb's birthday and with Mansell in attendance, it was a joy to see Vettel fanboy a little. Vettel ran a logo free version of this helmet in the Williams, inspired by Mansell's iconic helmet design, but also ran this version on Friday. I actually made this helmet on Friday, expecting him to race it, but he ran a helmet designed by his kids to celebrate his birthday. Along with his standard helmet, he managed to run 4 helmets during the weekend.

Alex Albon 2022 British GP helmet

Alex came to Silverstone with this uniquely coloured helmet featuring cartoon representations of his family of pets. Sadly, Vettel couldn't avoid running into the back of him at the first corner, sending him ricocheting off the wall and having several more collisions with other cars before coming to a halt. Thankfully he was checked out and was OK, another testiment to the strength of these heavy cars keeping the drivers safe.

Zhou Gyanyu 2022 British GP helmet

Zhou appeared at the British GP with this Union Flag coloured helmet with various London icons, including the London Eye, the London bus, a phone box, Tower Bridge and Elizabeth tower which houses Big Ben. This race will mostly be remembered for the huge accident he was involved in, skidding on his halo and clearing the tyre barrier at the first turn. Mercifully, they got Zhou out unscathed, but it was a reminder of how easily things could go wrong in motorsport. We are all grateful for the safety innovations that have allowed drivers to race another day following these scary shunts.

I don't know when I'll get an opportunity to create the remaining special helmets, but stay tuned here for the latest news.

Thanks as ever to Jvinu for his helmet shapes and templates. These are compatible with ACSPRH helmets in other games (after conversion).

GP4: Miami GP helmets part 2

I've managed to pick off some of the easier helmets to create from the Miami GP, I'm just over half way through them now, so I'll share an update. I've also gone and updated a few of the standard helmets to bring them up to date with how they've looked in the early races.

Alex Albon

Alex Albon 2022 Miami GP helmet

The British born Thai driver has truly taken on the Williams number one role and showed impressive form much like what we saw in his Toro Rosso days, delivering some impressive race performances and scoring points that car doesn't deserve to. In Miami, his helmet has turned sky blue and the galaxy picture on the top are now splashing waves.

Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso 2022 Miami GP helmet

Like many other drivers, Fernando's helmet now features a lot of blue and pink, with the gentle waves, a lifeguard beach hut, with the sun setting and the palm trees; it's a beautiful scene. I was a bit concerned initially with the palm trees running over the seam at the front and top of the helmet, but it wasn't the most difficult to line up in the end.

Lando Norris

Lando Norris 2022 Miami GP helmet

I enjoyed the memes that it should have been Russell and not Norris who should be running a basketball themed helmet because of how much his head bounces up and down in the Merc. Anyway, the helmet looked too good to be true and lead to most people with the need to touch it and see if it was truly bobbly like a real basketball, great job by JMD. Anyway, a great design, the black lines took a bit of fine-tuning to make it look right from every angle.

Sergio Perez

Sergio Perez 2022 Miami GP helmet

Another blue and pink helmet alert, this time it's the Mexican's helmet that's received the Miami treatment. Replacing the Aztec design are stripes with the pink-purple-sky blue gradient. The pink really pops in the right light, a real eye catcher.

Mick Schumacher

Mick Schumacher 2022 Miami GP helmet

Mick's actually had slightly different variations of his helmet at most races this year, I may go back and do them, depends how much time I have. This time, his helmet has also undergone the pink-sky blue treatment. The pink has a metallic shine to it, whilst the black continues to show the woodgrain / fingerprint style speckled highlights that he's run since the Bahrain GP in different parts of his helmets this year. He was having such a great race up until the unfortunately collision, would have been nice to celebrate his first points in F1 with this special lid.

Updated helmets

I've added no war logos to both Ferrari drivers and Latifi's helmet. Initially I wanted to wait to see if it was a one off race thing, but with these drivers having run it for all five Grand Prix so far, I decided to update their helmets.

I also updated the main red on Ocon's helmet. For some reason, that shade of red doesn't convert well to GP4's .tex format, so I've changed it and amended the alpha layer to be more realistic.

Thanks as always to Jvinu for the various helmet shapes and templates, recreating the helmets are a pleasure on his base work.

GP4: 2nd batch of 2022 helmets

In this update, I have made a few shape fixes, and I've updated Lance Stroll's helmet to make the number on the top chrome. Today I offer up 5 more helmets added to the pack. I wanted to hold back a bit on creating the helmets until I was sure of what they will actually use during the season.

But there's no harm in having the templates done that will hopefully save me time in the long run. Alex Albon, Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher have all brought significantly different helmets to testing in Bahrain, Kevin Magnussen used his 2020 helmet, whilst many drivers ran the 'no war' logos on their lids. I wanted to create a base pack first, and if they continue to have special messages at the race, I'll add them then.

Red Bull

Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen 2022 helmet

World Champion Max Verstappen has gone all gold for 2022. Unfortunately the wing at the back of the Schuberth hasn't been created, and the Arai one doesn't fit, so I'll have to put that on the back burner for now. The number 1 does appear on the back of the helmet along with a World Championship star.

Ferrari

Carlos Sainz Jr

Carlos Sainz Jnr 2022 helmet
Carlos Sainz retains the style of his previous helmet, done by Dave Designs, but I've had to redraw every part of it for the 2022 edition. I love the bright red, the the red dashes, a good mix of Ferrari and his Spanish heritage. Sainz has moved from Schuberth to using Bell helmets this year.

Williams

Nicholas Latifi

Nicholas Latifi 2022 helmet

Latifi has had a very similar helmet since his F1 debut, with personal sponsor, Sofina, logos making up all the swirls. This year, the blue ones are slightly brighter, and there's subtle changes all around the helmet. From the pictures I've seen, he's retained the Frank Williams Racing logo on the side of his helmet, I'm not sure if this will stay, but it would be a nice touch if it did.

Alex Albon 2022 helmet

New Williams driver, Alex Albon, is still a Red Bull driver, can you tell? A striking design, with the Thai flag being worked in. After the rollercoster experience of F1 with Toro Rosso and Red Bull, he'll be looking to establish himself as the new young charger at Williams, pushing the team to good results just as Russell did the previous year. He's already got an alternative design that features much more white, so let's wait and see what he'll use during the season.

Lewis Hamilton 2022 helmet

Finally in this batch is Lewis Hamilton returning with essentially his 2021 helmet design. The most significant change is on the top of the helmet with the rainbow glitter  most prominent on the 44, but also more subtly in his logo. I've also done a bit of fine tuning to make it more accurate to the real helmet.

I doubt I'll get all the helmets done in time for the first race, that's not my aim, but I'll be glad for better pictures of the helmets in the race build up. Alonso has already teased more pink on his helmet to go with his predominantly pink car, I guess Ocon is likely to have the same.

GP4: Russian GP Updates - Mazepin, Williams, Aston Martin & Mercedes

Helmets: Nikita Mazepin

Just the one helmet to update from the Russian GP (Vettel used his Styrian GP lid again), and it's the first home race for Nikita Mazepin.

Nikita Mazepin 2021 Russian GP Helmet

His helmet is now turned from dayglo red to the colours of the Russian flag, with gold trim. It features names of all the medalists who competed under ROC from the Olympics and the Paralympics. There's also a gold Haas medal at the front. Mazepin uses a Bell helmet, and  I'm ever grateful for Jvinu's Bell helmet and template which is a pleasure to paint on.

GP4: 2021 Williams FW43B Download v1.1

I've updated the 2021 Williams FW43B pack, the car now comes with liveries from all 11 Grand Prix so far this season.

Most the changes have been track specific sponsors, the British GP car ran a tribute to Matt King OBE as seen on the screenshot above.

Thanks to my RSCT friends, Excalibur and Hega for their help on this project.

The links are the same as before, but now includes all the textures in GP4 format.

GP4: 2021 Williams FW43B Download

Here it is, the 2021 Williams FW43B released for GP4. This release comes with the car in Bahrain GP spec shape (I haven't decided if I will do further updates on the car or not yet). As mentioned in my previous blog post, I am very happy with the accuracy of this car and I've managed to keep the polygon count reasonably low too.

The car comes with complete liveries for the first six races, including special liveries:
  • Bahrain GP - Zeiss on the mirrors and the Murray Walker quote on the halo
  • Emilia Romagna GP - standard car before they put Dorilton Ventures on the sidepod
  • Portuguese GP - this is the standard livery.
  • Spanish GP - they ran Israel logos on various parts of the car.
  • Monaco GP - the 750 GP celebration livery with supporters names on the halo.
Once again, I wanted to thank my RSCT friends, Excalibur and Hega for their help on this project.
