1994 Model Review

I have reviewed all of my collection of cars from the 1994 Formula 1 Season, and you can click on the links in the table below. They also include alternative versions that I have not owned, and hopefully I will update them as further models are added.

1994 was a season full of drama and tragedy, of cheating allegations, a refuelling fire and a championship battle that went down to the final race. New cars without 'driver aids' and the introduction of refuelling were sources of controversy as teams pushed the envelope of what was permissible and what they could get away with. It led to massive crashes, some fatal, others causing major injuries, as well as pushing up costs for cash-strapped teams with mid-season regulation changes and a driver merry-go-round that I still today struggle to remember them all.

The deaths of Roland Ratzenberger and of course, Ayrton Senna at the San Marino Grand Prix will forever be etched in my memory, and so this first batch of model reviews are a dedication to their memory.

Schumacher took his first of seven World Championships, as well as Benetton's (Enstone factory) first in controversial circumstances when, damaging his car whilst in the lead, deliberately drove into Damon Hill's Williams and ending both their races.

Ayrton Senna would not win a race in a Williams, but Nigel Mansell claimed his final race victory at the Australian Grand Prix.

This would be the final season with the Lotus team, although they made something of a comeback in 2010, as financial pressures got the better of them. The popular minnow, Larrousse also folded at the end of the year, despite many attempts to enter a car for 1995 and 1996. This would also be the final season where more than the permitted 26 cars entered a Grand Prix weekend with cars being eliminated in qualifying (or pre-qualifying in seasons prior).
